Upon completion, the installation program restarts Windows Explorer which loads TimeTravelerTM. The first time it is loaded on a machine, TimeTravelerTM contacts the activation server from Bears on the Loose and requests a trial product key. An active internet connection is required for this to succeed. If the operation completes successfully, TimeTravelerTM becomes fully functional for 10 days and displays an amber button on left-bottom corner of the timeline. See figure 1.
Figure 1: Activation using a trial product key
Anytime during the trial period you can activate TimeTravelerTM. Simply press the activation button to bring up the activation form. See figure 2. The form contains a link to the online Bears on the Loose store where you can purchase your license. Once your payment is confirmed you will receive an email containing your product key. Enter your email address and product key in the form and then press the Activate button. Your TimeTravelerTM will be activated. Once again you need an active internet connection to perform this operation.

If there is a problem getting the trial product key, the activation button will be gray. The TimeTravelerTM
status button will be displayed in the upper-left corner of the timeline and all the
functionality will be disabled. See figure 3. Hover the status button with the mouse to know
the exact cause of the problem.
Figure 3: Activation failure
If you get the message "Activation server is not reachable. Make sure internet is available."
Check that your internet connection works. Ex. Can you access google?
Are you using a firewall or an anti-virus software that blocks outbound connections? Make sure it let the program TimeInformationService make an outbound connection on port 8083. For example, McAfee anti-virus would ask you if you want to let the program open the connection. See figure 4.
Are you using a router that blocks outbound connections? Ask your system administrator to open port 8083 to outbound connections.
If none of this worked, please send us the file TimeInformationService.log located in the installation directory at support@bearsontheloose.com and we will troubleshoot the issue.

Installation and Activation
Once the trial period is over the activation indicator will turn
gray and all the functionality will be disabled. In this situation, the
activation indicator/button or the timeline title can be clicked to bring up the
activation form. Once activated, the indicator will turn green and all the
functionality will be available again.
